Reminder - Please send in the Read-a-thon envelope by Tuesday at the latest.

EVENING OF THE ARTS
Wednesday, May 28 is our school's annual Evening of the Arts.  The children need to be at school, in their classrooms by 6:00 pm (with their violins).  The concert begins at 6:30.  Please bring your lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

BOOK FAIR
Our Book Fair is running all this week during all three recesses.  It will also be open on the Evening of the Arts night from 5:30 to 8:15.  (It will be closed during the actual concert.)  Please feel free to browse with your child before and after the concert.  All of the monies raised from the Read-a-thon and the Book Fair will go towards our school's literacy programs.

SUMMER WEATHER
Well summer has finally arrived!  Please send a sun hat for your child to wear during recess outside.  I would also recommend that you put sunscreen on your child in the morning and send a bottle to school for them to reapply throughout the day.  We will be going outside every recess and for most of the phys. ed. classes until the end of the year and our playground has very little shade.

MUSEUM FIELD TRIP
Thank you to all of the parents who drove to the museum.  Here are a few photos from our trip.

Reminders - NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 19

FIELD TRIP
Our Field Trip to the Manitoba Museum is coming up on Wednesday, May 21.  If you have not returned the permission slip, please do so on Tuesday.  If you have signed up to drive, please make sure the office has a copy of your license and insurance on file.  ALSO - do not forget to leave your child's car seat at school that morning.

READ-A-THON
Your child should have received a large envelope last week explaining all about the read-a-thon.  The monies collected will go towards our school's literacy programs.  The children have a chance to win a book basket or the grand prizes.  Thank you for participating.  The envelopes are due back at school next week on Monday, May 26.

HOMEWORK
This is the last week for the homework packages.  YEAH!  I don't send any homework in June.  I know that everyone is busy and we need to enjoy the nicer weather (when it actually arrives).  I still would like the children to continue with their home-reading (and all through the summer months as well).

MATH - SHAPES
We have completed our latest math unit abut shapes and are starting the next unit about Addition and Subtraction.  Here are a couple of photos from our "sort the 3-D objects snacks".

CHAPEL with NICARAGUA
Last week we had a special chapel service with the school children in Nicaragua by over the internet.  We asked each other questions and sang songs for each other.  It was an amazing experience for all of the children.  Here are a few pictures of this special chapel service.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
The children painted a vase filled with flowers for their mothers.  They all turned out beautifully.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!                                 Joel                                     May 6

FIELD TRIP
I am sending home a yellow field trip permission form this week.  We will be going to the Manitoba Museum on Wednesday, May 21 in the morning.  We will need parent drivers and chaperones for this trip so if you are interested, please fill out that portion of the form.  We will be participating in a program called "Similarities and Differences" which goes with our social studies curriculum.  We will also have an hour or so to explore parts of the museum on our own.  We will be returning to the school in time for lunch.  Don't forget to check off the booster seat portion of the form and then return it to school.

GOODBYE
We said goodbye to Ms. Hosegood on Friday.  We will miss her and wish her well next year in her last year of university.

ISLAND MAPS
We have finished making our own 3-D island maps.  They are displayed on the hallway bulletin board.  We also wrote about our own islands and talked about the different landforms that you can find there.  We learned about a compass rose, a legend and how to find places on a map.  Here are pictures of our island maps.
