What's New in One and Two? - December 21 - 22, 2015

I pray that all of you may have a joyous Christmas and a blessed New Year in 2016!

I have a number of photos to share with you as we wind up this last week of school for 2015.

Here is a photo of the "Owls" singing their "Hoo, Hoo, Hoo" song from the Christmas concert.

Last week we made Christmas cards for seniors living at River Park Gardens.

We made "Give Lists" of things that we would like to give to others for Christmas and a wreath made out of paper hands.  A flashlight (Jesus is our light) was our 4th item in the Chapel Backpack for this month. The letters and the wreath are posted on the hallway bulletin board.

We are having a VERY busy last few days of school.  Today we had our Talent Show and a number of students from our class shared their amazing talents.  We had a scientist, a dancer, a dance trio, a soccer player, a comic and an artist.

In the afternoon we went outside for our Winter Sports Events.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY       Mason       December 15

MITTEN TREE
Thank you so much for your help with our "Mitten Tree" collection.  We collected a total of 71 winter clothing items for Koats for Kids.  Our grade ones counted the items on Friday -
1 sweater, 1 baby snowsuit, 1 hat, 2 scarves, 46 pairs of mittens, and 20 pairs of gloves.
Thanks again!

COMMUNITY WORKER

We had one last community worker visitor on Thursday.  Thank you Mrs. McBride.

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
Our class would like to make up a hamper for one family for the Christmas Cheer Board this week. Each child should have brought home a green piece of paper with a few food items listed on it.  Please send these food items to school this week.  If you are not able to bring these items to school, please let me know and I will make other arrangements.  We are also looking for a gift for each of the children in our hamper family.  If you are interested in sending a gift, please e-mail me or there is a sign-up sheet outside of our classroom door.  Our family has a 6 month old boy and a 6 year old girl. Lastly, we are looking for school family who would like to deliver our hamper next weekend.  Please let me know if your family would like to help out with this activity.
Thank you for your continued support.

BOXTOWN
Our class built an amazing community last week called BOXTOWN.  The children were very busy and excited to build this community.  We had a police station, a HUGE hospital, a Tim Horton's, a swimming pool, a dentist office, a McDonald's, a Sky Zone, and many other creative buildings.

PAINTED PORTRAITS
In case you did not get a chance to see and guess who the portraits were that each child painted of themselves, here are photos of "Who is Who in Grade One and Two".

THE THREE LITTLE PIGS
The grade 2 reading group came to our classroom and performed a short play last week.  They did a wonderful job reading and acting out the story of The Three Little Pigs.

COMMUNITY WORKERS
We also had three guest speakers (parents) last week. They came to tell us about their jobs in the community.  The children had lots of interesting questions for our guests.  Thank you for coming to visit our classroom!

JOURNEY WITH JESUS
This month we found an extra jacket in our Chapel Backpack.  We learned about how Jesus puts His "Robe of Righteousness" over us.  We made snowflakes on a black robe to represent how we are washed and forgiven and become whiter then snow.

What's New in One and Two? November 23 - 27, 2015

REMINDERS - Student-led Conferences on Tuesday, Nov 24 and Wednesday, Nov 25

COMMUNITY WORKERS
A couple of weeks ago I sent home a pink sheet asking if there were any parents who might be interested and available to come into our classroom and tell us a little bit about their jobs.  Is there anyone who would still like to come but has not contacted me yet?  We still have spaces open.  Please let me know if you would like to come.  Thanks.

MITTEN TREE
Last week our class made posters for the school, asking for help in bringing in mittens for our Mitten Tree.  We will be collecting mittens for the "Koats for Kids" campaign.  There is a wooden tree in the front hall and we are asking families to bring in a pair of mittens.  Our red posters will be put up this week and we will be collecting the mittens for the next two weeks.  Thanks for your help.

The Colours of Us - We read this book last week.  It is all about the beautiful, different colours that we all are and how God made us special.  We each chose and helped mix the different colours of brown to paint our skin and then painted our self-portraits.  We learned about how heads are not round but oval shaped and how our eyes and ears were in the middles of our faces, not near the tops.  Here are our portraits.  Take a look.  They are also hanging on our hallway bulletin board.
