THANK YOU
Thank you to all of the families who helped out with our Terry Fox Run donations.  Thank you too, to all of the parents who came along on our field trip to the Snake Pits.  We had perfect weather and caught lots of snakes!

RAINBOWS
Annabelle (in grade 2) heard a story on the radio (QX104) about a little girl named Maranda who is very ill.  Maranda lives in Regina with her mom and her sister and asked for people all over the world to send her pictures of rainbows.  Annabelle asked if our class could make some rainbows for her and we will be working on them this week and then sending them to Maranda along with our prayers.

FIELD TRIP to the MTYP
We will be going on a field trip to the MTYP (Manitoba Theatre for Young People) at the Forks, to see “Where the Wild Things Are”.  This is an adaptation of the book by Maurice Sendak.  We will be going on Tuesday, October 16 in the afternoon.  A permission slip for this field trip will be coming home soon.

SENSES
We are continuing the science unit about our senses.  We have matched sounds using “Egg Shakers”.  We will be trying out “Smelly Jars” and “Feely Socks”.  We will also be having taste tests and graphing our results.

Our school will be going on our Terry Fox Walk this Thursday, September 27 at 1:00 pm.  We will be walking as a group around the neighbourhood.  Please have your child wear their blue ~ BSLS t-shirt on Thursday.  Please send in your Terry Fox pledge form and $, this week.  Thank you!

SNAKE PITS FIELD TRIP
The weather looks promising for our field trip to the Narcisse Snake pits on Friday, September 28.  (Keep the weather in your prayers.)  Please dress appropriately for the weather that morning.

FRIDAY SPELLING TEST
The grade two spelling test for this week will be done on the following Monday (October 1) because of our all day field trip on Friday.  I would still like the homework packages to be handed in on Friday as usual.

SPECIAL PEOPLE in our CLASSROOM
We have a number of special people in our classroom this year.  Ms. Edwards and Ms. Tolenar (Ms. T.) are both E.A.’s in our classroom.  They alternate the days they spend with us.  We also have Mrs. Woods, a volunteer, who comes in Mondays and Fridays.  She is very special because she is a retired teacher and my mom.  Miss O’Neill is a student teacher from the U of W who will be spending Thursdays in our classroom as well.  We are very grateful for their help.

HOME-READING
Last week we started our home-reading program.  The children may switch books any day during the week, when they have finished with their old books.  Don’t forget to initial the date boxes for the number of nights of home reading and return the weekly sheet to school each Friday.  Our goal is to read at least 5 nights per week.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!           August 5                Joshua S.

                                              August 15             Noah

We celebrate August birthdays in September and July birthdays in June.

SCHOOL PHOTOS
School pictures were taken on Friday.  An order form should have come home with your child.  This year all of the ordering will be done on-line.  If you have any questions please call the photography company.

HOME-READING
I am sending home some information about our home-reading program today.  Your child will also be bringing home a book to begin with.  Please read the information letter and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

SPELLING
The grade twos had their first spelling test on Friday.  They all did a fine job.  Please help your child to remember to hand-in their homework packages every Friday (we do keep track at school).  Grade Ones also need help remembering to return their homework and Math Bag Games.

FIELD TRIP NOTICE
One of the moms from our class informed me that the car seat laws have changed lately.  Any child under 80 pounds (which would be almost everyone in grade one and two) will need to have a booster seat or a car seat when we go on any field trips.  Please make sure to bring your child’s car seat on the day of the Snake Pit Field Trip on Friday, September 28.
