Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! December 20, 2019

Reminders - Back to school on Monday, January 6, 2020

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR from my family to yours!
Enjoy your winter break.

THANK YOU
Thank you all for helping us make up our classroom Christmas hamper this year and thank you to Megan's family for offering to deliver it to our hamper family.

Thank you for all of the wonderful gifts that I've received this past week.  They were thoughtful, delicious and very much appreciated.

HOME-READING TREE
I am sending home a Christmas tree reading-log for your child to work on over the break.  They can colour in one ornament for each night of home-reading that they do.  Return it to school in January.  If they fill in the whole tree, I do have prizes to give them.   Please do try your best to keep up with the home-reading over the break (I know it's hard).  There is no other homework to do.

Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! December 10, 2019

                   - Back to school in 2020 - Monday, January 6

CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Our Christmas Concert is coming up quickly - Thursday, December 12.  The children are asked to be at the Caboto Centre at 6:00.  The concert begins at 6:30.  Please dress your child in "Fancy" clothing and do not forget to bring a pair of SHOES and their VIOLINS.

SKATING EVENT
There is an optional skating field trip for any student who is interested, to go to the Norwood Community Centre on Wednesday, December 18.  Hopefully you have seen, filled out and returned the blue permission form for this field trip.  If your child does not want to attend (or does not have skates) we will be having other outdoor activities planned at the school for those children.
Hopefully the weather cooperates!

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our Christmas party will be on the last day of classes - Friday, December 20 in the afternoon.
The snack parents for this party are -
Hannah, Hosana, Jack and Javi

CHRISTMAS HAMPER
Last week I sent home a letter explaining how we are organizing our Christmas hamper food.  Each child should have brought home a slip of paper with a few food items listed.  Please bring these items to school as soon as you are able.  (The hampers will get sent out on the last day of school).  We are also asking for $2 from each child so that we can purchase a toy for each of the children in our hamper family.  (I do have a master list in case the slip of paper gets misplaced.😊)
We are also looking to a family who would be interested in delivering the hamper to the hamper family on that last day of school.  Please let me know if you would be able to help us out in this way.  Thanks.

WINTER WEATHER
We go outside for recess everyday.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold.  If the temperature (plus wind chill) reaches -30, we will stay inside for recess.

Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! November 20, 2019

Reminders - Report cards sent home on Friday, November 22
                   - Student-Led Conferences on Tuesday, Nov 26 and Wednesday, Nov 27
                   - Scholastic book orders due on Friday, November 29

SENSES
We are finishing up our science unit about the senses with some "sensational" activities like -
taste testing, making smelly cards, making our touch booklets and playing sound BINGO.

STUDENT - LED CONFERENCES
Our term one student-led conferences will be held next week (Tuesday and Wednesday).  Hopefully you have filled out the scheduling sheet and returned it to school so Mrs. Madden can make up the schedules.  If not, please contact her at the office.

This conference is all about having the students share (and take some ownership of) their learning and growth, with their parents.  There will be more than one family in the classroom at the same time, looking through and talking about their work portfolios.  If, after the report card information and the conference evening, a parent would still like to meet with the teacher individually, please let them know and they can set up a separate time to meet.  The children are very excited to share their portfolios with all of you.  See you next week!

Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! November 4, 2019

Reminders - No School on Friday, November 8
                   - No School on Monday, November 11 - Remembrance Day
                   - Fall Supper - Saturday, November 16

REMEMBRANCE DAY - POPPY MONEY
Our Remembrance Day Service will be held on Thursday, November 7 starting at 10:45 am, in the chapel area.  Each child will be given a poppy to wear at the service.  If you would like to send in some money to donate to the Poppy fund, you are welcome to do so.

HALLOWEEN CANDY
Thank you to all of the parents who brought in treats for our class Halloween party.  They were all delicious and very much appreciated!
I know that the children are excited to bring in a few Halloween treats to eat at school.  I have been telling them to save their candy for lunch dessert and to eat something healthy at snack time instead.  Could I also ask that they not bring suckers to eat at school?  They take a very, very long time to eat and they do not have time to eat anything else.  I worry about them having a sucker stick in their mouth at recess time too.  Maybe they could save their suckers for home, please?
Thanks for your help.
