What's New in One and Two? October 26 - 30, 2015

Reminders - Picture re-takes on Monday, October 26 (only if you are registered)

PUMPKIN PARTY
Our class Pumpkin Party is on Friday, October 30 in the afternoon.  If your child would like to wear a costume (not scary, no weapons) they should bring it to school in a plastic grocery bag (labeled), leave it in their lockers and they will have time to change into their costumes after lunch recess.
SNACK PARENTS - Ana, Avery, Chris, Emerson

HOT LUNCH DAYS - SNACKS
Please remember to send a snack with your child on the Hot Lunch Days.  They will still be having a snack time before first recess.

HOME-READING LOGS
Whoops!  I forgot to send the home-reading logs home on Thursday.  I will be sending them home on Monday.  Sorry.

PRAIRIE EXOTICS
We had some very interesting visitors last week on Tuesday.  They were from "Prairie Exotics" and they came to school to help Avery celebrate her birthday.  We saw snakes, lizards, spiders, tortoises, frogs, and even a legless lizard (who looked like a snake).  We learned some information about the animals and we got to touch some of them.  We even got to hold a few, if we wanted.  Thank you Avery for inviting some very exotic guests to help celebrate your birthday and sharing them with us.

What's New in One and Two? October 19 - 23, 2015

Reminder - NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 23
                  - Homework is due on Thursday, October 22 this week (and Grade 2 spelling test)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY          Avery          October 20     and     Lawrence          October 25

THANK YOU
It was my birthday on Thursday (Oct 15).  Thank you to a couple of volunteer moms (Finley's and Avery's) for making my birthday special.  We shared some delicious cupcakes and I received a bouquet of beautiful pink roses.  These two mom's have been coming in one day each week and volunteering in our classroom.  They have been a LOT of help to me and I know the children really enjoy their visits.  Thank you so much!

HALLOWEEN PARTY
We will be having a Halloween "Pumpkin Party" on Friday, October 30.  The children will be able to dress up for the afternoon on that day.  Please do not send your child in a scary, bloody, gory, weapons, etc... costume.  This is a Christian school and we have many young children in the building.  They do not have to dress up if they do not wish to or I do have a box full of hats and costumes that they may borrow at school.  Please send the costume in a plastic bag that morning and they can change after lunch recess.

SNACK PARENTS - We have 5 holiday parties at school during the year.  I usually divide the parent list up between the party days and assign parents to one of the holiday parties to bring snacks.  If your day does not work out for you, you can trade with another family or if you do not wish to bring snacks, please let me know.  This system seems to work out fairly for everyone.
HALLOWEEN - Snacks - Ana, Avery, Christian, Emerson
CHRISTMAS - Snacks - Evan, Finley, Hayden, Jake
VALENTINES - Snacks - Lawrence, Mason, Nik, Nyah
EASTER - Snacks - Riel, Sacha, Stone, Xander
END OF THE YEAR - Free for anyone who would like to bring snacks
I will provide the juice for the parties.  Please remember that the snacks need to contain NO NUTS.

PRAIRIE EXOTICS
We are having some special guests next week on Tuesday afternoon.  They are coming from "Prairie Exotics".  We'll let you know how the visit went.

PUMPKIN FACES
The children mixed yellow and red paint to make orange and then took a print of their designs.  We used these textured paintings to make pumpkin faces.  See if you can guess who is who.  They are hanging on our hallway bulletin board.

What's New in One and Two? October 12 - 16, 2015

Reminder - NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 12
                  - Scholastic Book Orders for October are due Friday, October 16

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Your child brought home a "Thank you God" colour prayer book that we wrote at school.  I hope that they were able to read their prayers during Thanksgiving.  We drew pictures of things that we were thankful for in French.  They are posted on our bulletin board in the hallway.

TERRY FOX WALK
We went on our Terry Fox Walk on Friday afternoon with the entire school.  We had a beautiful day for this event and had fun walking with our big Reading Buddies as partners.  Thank you for your help with the "Tasks for Terry" fund raiser.  We shared some of the helpful activities that the students performed before our walk.

HOME-READING LOG
We started keeping track of our home-reading last week.  Please initial the date box on the sheet for each night of home-reading that your child completes and fill out the total box beneath.  I do keep track at school.  They will receive a new log every Friday for the following week.  Please return the old completed log sheet every Friday (the same day that the other homework is due).  The children can trade books at anytime during the week but keeping and re-reading the beginner books for 3 or 4 nights in a row is very helpful when first learning to read.
(I know this photo is small but hopefully you get the idea.)

SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK
We had lots of fun during School Spirit Week.  This is Pajama Day.
