WE CARE KITS
Your child should have brought home a small white paper with the items they chose to bring for our We Care Kits listed. We will be collecting these items throughout the month of February but they may bring them to school at anytime. I do have a master list if anyone forgets or loses their paper.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
We have three January birthdays! Cole ~ January 26, Heidi ~ January 27, Karter ~ January 30
PENGUINS
Our penguin unit is well underway. The children will soon be starting their own penguin research project. Each student will be studying one type of penguin and sharing what they leaned with the rest of the class. Did you know that there are 17 different types of penguins and that most of them do not live in Antarctica?
RECYCLING
There is a poster contest going on at our school right now. Our class will be making group posters at school encouraging people to recycling. All of the posters will be on display at the Aaron Burnett Concert on Thursday, January 30.

What's New? - January 20 - 24, 2014
SCIENCE - We have started our new science unit about The Characteristics and Needs of Living Things. We will be focusing on Penguins.
WE CARE KITS - Our class will be putting together "We Care Kits" for school children in Nicaragua during the month of February. This week we will be choosing which item each child will be asked to bring (for example - Bob brings 10 rulers). We are hoping to put together 20 kits from our class. The dollars store is an inexpensive place to buy most of the items. If you are unable to participate, please let me know and I will make sure the items are brought to school. Thanks for your help.
ROBOTS - We built our own robots last week. We talked about what materials they were made from and what job the robots did.

What's New in One and Two? January 6 - 10, 2014
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
GRADE ONE HOMEWORK -
The grade ones are getting a bigger homework package starting in January. They have a few more math bag games to finish up and I have added some spelling homework (4 pages). There will be a spelling test on Friday and the homework continues to be due on Friday. The spelling words start off quite basic (sight words and word families). Your child may need some help understanding the directions for the homework at first.
ROBOT PROJECT -
Please send your old, broken appliances to school this week. We will be starting to work on our robots. This is the final project for our science unit about materials.
