NEW FIELD TRIP
If you remember, the last time we went to the MTYP they had to cancel our performance date of Peter Pan and moved it to an alternate date.  Because of this inconvenience, they have given us FREE tickets to see another show.  We will be going to the MTYP on Friday, February 13 in the morning.  The show we are seeing is called "New Canadian Kid".  There is a yellow permission form coming home on Tuesday.  We will need drivers and chaperones.  If you are able to help us out, please fill in the appropriate section of the permission form.  Please return these forms by next Wednesday, February 11.

We still have another field trip to the Manitoba Museum coming up on Friday, February 27.  The permission form for this field trip will be coming home at a later time.

I LOVE TO READ
This month it is "I Love to Read" month.  We have lots of activities planned.  All month we are having a Dress-up Theme on one day of each week.

THURSDAY, February 5 - WEAR WORDS
(Dress up in a t-shirt that has words or write your own words and attach them to your clothes)
FRIDAY, February 13 - WEAR RED OR PINK CLOTHES
FRIDAY, February 20 - DRESS AS A VOYAGER
FRIDAY, February 27- DRESS AS A STORYBOOK CHARACTER
(We have the field trip in the morning, so if possible, they should keep their costumes in their lockers and we will change after lunch.  If the costume is simple, they can wear it to the Museum!)

VALENTINE PARTY
Our Valentine Party will be next Friday, February 13 in the afternoon.  The children usually exchange Valentine cards.  If your child does not wish to give cards, they do not have to.  If you are sending cards, please make sure there is a card for every child in the class.
Here is our class list -
Alia, Andy, Anne, Ben, Brianna, Emerson, Evan, Hayden, Jake, Jared, Jaxen, Karter, Landon, Lawrence, Maddy, Mason, Owen, Riel, Sacha, Yan (20 children)

The snack parents for this party are -
Snacks - Jaxen, Karter, Landon, Lawrence           Drinks - Maddy

BEAR DIORAMAS
Thank you for sending in the shoeboxes for our dioramas.  There is still time to send one (or two) in to school as we will not be working on this project until next week.  Thanks.

Here are a few photos of the students trying to put together some tricky puzzles.
(Sorry they are sideways)

What's New in One and Two? January 26, 2015

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!                                  Anne                                January 25
                                                                      Karter                               January 30

BEARS
We are coming along with our study about bears.  We learned that there are 8 different kinds of bears in the world and that 3 of them live in Canada.

FLASH CARDS
The grade 2's have been working on their addition facts with flash cards.  They will be bringing them home sometime this week.  PLEASE practice them with your child at home many, many times.  Memorization of basic facts has been put back into the Manitoba curriculum and fast recall of the facts is an asset for math in the higher grades.

ART - This week in art we talked about making pictures with positive and negative spaces.

SCIENCE
We have finished up our science unit about the seasons.  There are some information pyramids displayed on the hallway bulletin board which tell about the different ways in which animals can survive he winter.  Here are few photos.

Our next science unit is about the "Characteristics and Needs of Living Things".  We are going to focus our study on BEARS.

UPCOMING FIELD TRIP
We do have a field trip planned for February.  We will be going to the Manitoba Museum on Friday, February 27.  If any parents would like to come with us, I hope that this gives you enough time to plan around your work schedule.

SILLY SNOWMEN
At our Christmas Party on the last day of school before the holiday, we had teams try to make a snowman out of one of their team-mates by wrapping them in toilet paper (this is much harder than you think) and then add buttons, hats and scarves. Good work teams!
