What's New in One and Two? October 6 - 10, 2014

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!     Evan      October 7

We have had such a busy first month.

Hopefully, everyone is understanding how the home reading log works.  Parents need to initial the date box for each night of home reading, and list the books read.  I am keeping track of the number of nights the children do home reading.  Our goal is 5 times per week (or more).  The children are supposed to exchange their books in the morning, when needed.  If they are forgetting, please let me know and I can help them choose new "good fit" books.  They do not need to pick new books every night.  Re-reading books is the best way to practice important literacy skills like fluency, rhythm, speed and expression.

Here are 2 photos of our class on Terry Fox Day, wearing our hats.

Here are a few photos of our class at the snake pits.

We are working on our new science unit about the senses.  We started with SIGHT and have done lots of colour mixing.  Their handprint paint-mixing pictures are posted on the hallway bulletin board.  Take a look!

What's New in One and Two? September 8 - 12, 2014

WELCOME BACK!

Our new school year is off to a great start!

Happy Birthday to Jacob - August 2
                               Alia - August 11
                               Yan - August 20
(We celebrate our July birthdays in June)

Your child has been working on remembering to bring their "Froggy Bag" to school everyday.

The canteen will be open next week.  If you would like your child to have a canteen card, please send ten dollars to the office.  You can limit the items that you want your child to purchase if you wish. (For example - milk only, or treat on Friday)

The first Scholastic Book orders went home last week.  If you would like to order books please return the forms along with your cheque by Friday, September 12.

Your child brought home a "Summer Memories Bag" on Friday along with a letter explaining the assignment.  Please return it to school some time this week.  We will be sharing a few bags each day.

We have a class pet - a guinea pig named Muffin.  The children can share a small bit of their snacks with her if they wish.  She eats almost any fruit or vegetable, so a baby carrot or one grape to share is plenty.

A parent handbook and information folder was sent home on Friday.  Please return the needed forms to the office ASAP.

We have spent the first few days of school getting to know each other and learning the daily routines.  We have 20 children in our class - 14 grade ones and 6 grade twos.  We start each new day, sharing with our Care Buddies and then we all meet together on the carpet for songs, devotions and prayers.  Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, anecdotes or just want to touch base with me.  I am looking forward to spending the new year with your child in my class.
Have a wonderful week.

CLASS PARTY
Our "last day of school party" is on Friday.  I did not assign any families to bring snacks because some children will not be there on the last day.  So - it is open to whomever would like to bring treats on that last day - Thanks.

CLASSROOM BOOKS
I would like all of my classroom books to be returned to school this week.  All of my books should have a white sticker with my name on them and a coloured dot sticker with the book level on the front cover.

GOOD-BYE MAYA
We are very sad to say good-bye to Maya at the end of this week.  She and her family are moving to Alberta.  We will miss her and pray for a safe trip.  We know that she will do well at her new school and make lots of new friends.

FIELD TRIP TO OAK HAMMOCK
We had a great field trip to Oak Hammock Marsh last week.  Thank you to all of the parents (and grandparents) who came with us.  Thanks to the parents who shared photos with us too.  Here are some of the photos.
