EVENING OF THE ARTS CONCERT
1) Concert begins at 6:30.  Please have the children here at 5:45.  (Bring to the grade one classroom.  Mr. B needs time to tune-up everyone and organize).
2) Please dress in "Canada Day colours" (red and white and flag accessories if you wish).  Parents can dress up too!
3) Bring along lawn chairs and blankets.  The concert will be held outside (hopefully).
4) Book Fair will be open before and after the concert.
5) Don't forget the VIOLINS!

FIELD TRIPS
I sent home two field trip permission forms today.  The green one is for our trip to the Oak Hammock Marsh on Tuesday, June 13.  If you are able to drive, please sign that portion of the form.  This will be an all-day trip so the children will need a snack and a lunch.  Please dress them in layers, according to the weather.  We will go regardless of the weather conditions.  Please put on sunscreen before they come in the morning and have the children wear good walking shoes and bring along a sun hat.

The yellow form is for our trip to the Assiniboine Park Zoo on Friday, June 23.  We will also need drivers for this field trip and it is for a full-day too.  The notes above are the same for this trip.

SUMMER WEATHER
Now that is summer, please put sunscreen on your child before school.  They may bring their own sunscreen lotion to school to leave in their lockers and re-apply later in the day but they may not share sunscreen with other children (in case of allergies).  Please also send a sun hat to wear outside.

SCIENCE - MATERIALS
We have been working on our last science unit about Objects and Materials.  First we designed and built some helpful items for a few fairy-tale characters -  (a basket for Red-Riding-hood, a chair for Humpty Dumpty, and a boat for the Ginger-bread Man).  At the end of this unit we will be making our own ROBOTS out of different kinds of materials.  Please start saving some recyclable materials for us now.  But please don't send it to school yet, I do not have room to store it.
Ideas about what to save -
smallish cardboard boxes (cereal box size), paper towel rolls, interesting plastic packaging, small old appliances, bottle caps - plastic and metal,  paper wrappers, bubble wrap, cloth scraps, buttons, and anything else interesting that you can find around your house.
I'll let you know when to send it to school.  Thanks.

Building boats for the Gingerbread Man

Testing out the boats and re-designing

Outside - testing our final designs. Can your boat hold up the Gingerbread Man for 30 seconds?

Math - Measurement Unit - We measured and made a bed for ourselves, 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. Then we laid them in order like a big bar graph.
The tape outline is how big a giant's bed would be using giant footprints.

One "SILLY" photo -
