PHOTOS                                                                                                                     Thank you for sending in the baby and family photos to school.  I have made copies and we used them for a couple of social studies activities.  I am returning the original photos on Monday so please look for them in your child’s Froggy Bag.

WINTER IS HERE
The winter weather is here.  The children go outside everyday (almost) and need warm outdoor clothing.  They will also start to need winter boots.  Please make sure your child has a pair of running shoes to leave at school to wear inside and to wear for gym class.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I hope your Thanksgiving was relaxing, delicious and filled with blessings.

SOCIAL STUDIES
We are starting our new social studies unit called “I Belong”.  We will be looking at the different groups to which each of us belong.  Then we will be looking at our community.

I would like each student to bring in one baby photo of themselves and one photo of their family.  I am going to make a photocopy of these pictures to use in class and I promise that your copy will be returned safely and in one piece.  We will be using these photos for a class project.  Please send them in this week, as soon as possible.

READING
As well as building stamina when reading by ourselves, we have been working on reading TO someone.  We have been using this poem –     EEKK – “Elbow to elbow, Knee to knee.  I read to you and you read to me,” to remember how to sit beside a partner when reading.  We have also been reading with the grade 7 and 8 students on Wednesdays during Buddy Reading.  The ones and twos are thrilled to be reading to the “big kids” and have the big kids read to them during this time.

SWEATERS for CLWR
A few weeks ago I asked for sweaters that were no longer needed to send overseas with Canadian Lutheran World Relief.  They are still accepting used sweaters and hoodies if anyone still has some that they are willing to donate.  Just bring them to our classroom.  Thanks.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!                October 13              Landon

SENSES                                                                                                                          We are finishing our first science unit about Senses this week.  We have been finger painting, having taste tests and making our Feely Books.  This week we will be talking about our favourite tastes, watching how popcorn changes when we add heat, discussing how our senses help protect us and how we protect our senses.

HOME READING                                                                                             Hopefully the home-reading has been going well.  The children have a chance every morning to return and find new books.  They can/should keep the beginning “A” level books for more than one night but can exchange them for new books when they have returned the first set of books.  Let me know if your child is forgetting and needs some help.

READING in the CLASSROOM
We have been working on our stamina for reading on our own over the last few weeks.  We are now up to 18 minutes – HOORAY!  Each child has their own green book bin which contains some Good-Fit books, some books that they have written and some books they are interested in and can read the pictures.  While they are reading on their own, I have a chance to read with individual children or small groups.

*Don’t forget to initial this newsletter sheet at the bottom of the page and keep the homework pages attached.
