What's New in One and Two? October 27 - 31, 2014

PUMPKIN PARTY
Our class party is on Friday, October 31 in the afternoon.  If your child wishes to wear a costume, please send it to school in a plastic bag and they will change after lunch recess.  We will be having a costume parade around the school, from class to class.  After last recess, we will be having treats in the classroom.
Snack Parents for Halloween - Alia, Andy, Anne, Ben       Drinks - Brianna   (20 children)  Thanks!

PUMPKIN MATH
We worked on some pumpkin math questions in class today.  Starting with our estimations and guesses.  How big around is our pumpkin?  How many blocks tall?  Will the pumpkin float or sink?  How much does it weigh?  Will it roll?
Tomorrow we will be measuring and checking our estimations and guesses.

What's New in One and Two? October 20 - 24, 2014

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!               Lawrence                             October 25

There is NO SCHOOL this Friday, October 24
The homework is due on Thursday instead and the grade two spelling test is on Thursday as well.

Pumpkin Party
We will be having a Pumpkin Party on Friday, October 31.  The children may bring a costume to school (in a labeled plastic bag) and change into them after lunch recess @1:00.  Please do not send them to school already dressed in their costumes.  They do not have to bring or wear a costume if they do not want to.  Please make sure that the costume is appropriate for a Christian, elementary school.  We do have very young children in the building.  Please do not send frightening costumes with weapons or blood.

Each year we have a number of class parties and I have found it easiest to divide the parent list into groups and ask one group to send the snacks for one party per year.  If this plan does not work for you, please let me know.  Or if the holiday you are assigned is inconvenient, perhaps you could trade with another parent.

Also remember that this is a peanut safe school.  We have 20 children in our class.

Halloween - Snacks - Alia, Andy, Anne, Ben     Drinks - Brianna

Christmas - Snacks - Emerson, Evan, Hayden, Jacob      Drinks - Jared

Valentine's Day - Snacks - Jaxen,  Karter, Landon, Lawrence    Drinks - Mahder

Easter - Snacks - Mason, Owen, Riel, Sacha     Drinks - Yan

End of the year - Open for whoever would like to bring snacks

What's New in One and Two? October 6 - 10, 2014

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!     Evan      October 7

We have had such a busy first month.

Hopefully, everyone is understanding how the home reading log works.  Parents need to initial the date box for each night of home reading, and list the books read.  I am keeping track of the number of nights the children do home reading.  Our goal is 5 times per week (or more).  The children are supposed to exchange their books in the morning, when needed.  If they are forgetting, please let me know and I can help them choose new "good fit" books.  They do not need to pick new books every night.  Re-reading books is the best way to practice important literacy skills like fluency, rhythm, speed and expression.

Here are 2 photos of our class on Terry Fox Day, wearing our hats.

Here are a few photos of our class at the snake pits.

We are working on our new science unit about the senses.  We started with SIGHT and have done lots of colour mixing.  Their handprint paint-mixing pictures are posted on the hallway bulletin board.  Take a look!
