What's New in One and Two? December 1 - 5, 2014

FIELD TRIP to MTYP
Our new field trip date for the presentation of "Peter Pan" at the MTYP is on Tuesday, December 9.  The time is the same.  We will eat lunch early and leave the school at 12:00 noon.  The play runs from 12:30 to 2:00 and we should be back at school by 2:30.  Thank you to the parents who volunteered to drive last time.  I hope some or all of you are available to drive on our new date.  I am sending home a new (green) permission form for you to fill out one more time.  It has the new date on it.  Please return it to school by this Friday, December 5.  Hopefully everything will go smoothly this time.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS
I am sending out the December Scholastic order forms on Monday.  If I put in the order this coming weekend (Dec. 5) they should be able to deliver our books before Christmas.

CHRISTMAS CHEER BOARD HAMPERS
Each year our school puts together a number of Christmas hampers for the Cheer Board.  Our class will be making a hamper for one family.  Later this week your child should be bringing home a slip of paper with one or two food items needed for our class hamper.  We will also need school families to volunteer and sign-up for buying presents for the children (if you would like) and we will  need one family to deliver the hamper a week or so before Christmas.  Let me know if you are interested in any of the extra activities.

SPLAT the CAT
Last week we read a book called "Splat the Cat" by Rob Scotton and then we painted our own Splats.

FIELD TRIP
Our class will be going on a field trip to the MTYP (Manitoba Theatre for Young People) at the Forks, this Thursday, November 27 in the afternoon.  The play runs from 12:30 to 2:00 pm.  The permission form will be coming home on Monday and I would like it back as soon as possible (Wednesday at the latest).

We will need parent drivers/chaperones for this trip.  If you are available to drive please fill out the related portion of the permission form.  Also, check in with the office before the day of the field trip to ensure that your license and insurance information is up to date and on file.

Here is a photo of our class with Aaron from W.I.S.E.  He led us through some activities that explored our five senses.

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES
This week on Tuesday and Wednesday, we are having our Student-led Conferences.  You should have received a confirmation of your conference time in your report-card envelope (one per family).  The students are very excited to be able to share their work and progress with you.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you later this week!

After the conferences, if you would still like to speak to me individually, please let me know and we will arrange a different time and date.  Thanks.

SENSES
We have finished up our science unit about the senses.  This Thursday there is a group of university students from the U of M who will be giving our class a presentation/workshop on the senses as our final activity.  These students belong to a group called WISE (Women in Science and Engineering).  Our next unit in science is called "Daily and Seasonal Changes".

RECYCLE PRESENTATION
Last Wednesday a young man from Recycle Manitoba came out to the school and visited each class.  He talked about what recycling is, what items can be recycled and what can be made from recycled materials.  Here are a few photos of our class and "Recycle Michael".

REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE
Our school Remembrance Day Service will be held this Friday, November 7 at 11:00 am in the chapel area.  Each class will be contributing one short piece to the service.  Our class is singing a song called "The Poppy Song".  The parents do not have to attend but of course they are always welcome.  We will have lapel poppies to wear on that day and if you would like to send some money with your child to make a donation on Friday, that would be appreciated.
