LEPRECHAUN TRAPS
We will be needing your re-cycling stuff this week.  We will be making leprechaun traps on Thursday, March 14.  You can send in your re-cycling items anytime this week.
(Please do not send in glass or sharp edged tin cans.)

PENGUIN PROJECTS
We have just about finished up our penguin unit for science.  The children have been sharing their research information with the whole class.  We are learning a little bit about 14 different kinds of penguins.  We also painted our life-sized penguin portraits last week and they should be up in the hallway soon.  They are displayed like a graph - from smallest (Little Blue) to tallest (Emperor).

                  - We will be making some bannock in our classroom and singing some Voyageur songs

I LOVE TO READ MONTH
This month we have lots of "reading" activities planned.
Dress - Up Days
Wednesday, February 6 - WEAR WORDS - Wear a shirt that has words
Wednesday, February 13 - WEAR BLUE  (and gold if you have it). We have a special guest reader                                               from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers coming to read to our school.
Wednesday, February 20 - Dress as a favourite BOOK CHARACTER (bring the book if you can)
Wednesday, February 27 - WEAR PINK (or red) - This is the Day of Pink - Talking about bullying

We also have other special guest readers visiting during this special month.  If you would like to come and read to our class, please let me know, we wold love to have you!

COLOURFUL HOMEWORK - 2 SPELLING GROUPS
You will notice that the front page of the homework packages are coloured this week.  I have divided the class into two spelling groups.  The yellow group is a continuation of the spelling work that the class has used so far this year during January.  The blue group has a more challenging word list (10 words and 2 sentences).  I divided the group based on reading level and the ability to complete work and spell independently.  If your child is ever finding these new words and homework frustrating and too difficult, please let me know and they can switch groups.  We did have a talk today about how everyone is reading at their own "good-fit" level and that spelling is the same thing.  I like the children to be successful and to do well with their homework and spelling.

VALENTINE'S DAY 
Our Valentine's Day Party will be on Thursday, February 14 in the afternoon.  The children usually bring Valentine cards to give to each other during the party.  If you are sending cards, please make sure that everyone in the class receives a card from your child.

MUNCHTOPIA
Last week we had a group come in from PTE to perform "Munchtopia" at our school.  It was a combination of 5 different stories by Robert Munch.  The children really enjoyed the show.
