Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! November 20, 2019

Reminders - Report cards sent home on Friday, November 22
                   - Student-Led Conferences on Tuesday, Nov 26 and Wednesday, Nov 27
                   - Scholastic book orders due on Friday, November 29

SENSES
We are finishing up our science unit about the senses with some "sensational" activities like -
taste testing, making smelly cards, making our touch booklets and playing sound BINGO.

STUDENT - LED CONFERENCES
Our term one student-led conferences will be held next week (Tuesday and Wednesday).  Hopefully you have filled out the scheduling sheet and returned it to school so Mrs. Madden can make up the schedules.  If not, please contact her at the office.

This conference is all about having the students share (and take some ownership of) their learning and growth, with their parents.  There will be more than one family in the classroom at the same time, looking through and talking about their work portfolios.  If, after the report card information and the conference evening, a parent would still like to meet with the teacher individually, please let them know and they can set up a separate time to meet.  The children are very excited to share their portfolios with all of you.  See you next week!

Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! November 4, 2019

Reminders - No School on Friday, November 8
                   - No School on Monday, November 11 - Remembrance Day
                   - Fall Supper - Saturday, November 16

REMEMBRANCE DAY - POPPY MONEY
Our Remembrance Day Service will be held on Thursday, November 7 starting at 10:45 am, in the chapel area.  Each child will be given a poppy to wear at the service.  If you would like to send in some money to donate to the Poppy fund, you are welcome to do so.

HALLOWEEN CANDY
Thank you to all of the parents who brought in treats for our class Halloween party.  They were all delicious and very much appreciated!
I know that the children are excited to bring in a few Halloween treats to eat at school.  I have been telling them to save their candy for lunch dessert and to eat something healthy at snack time instead.  Could I also ask that they not bring suckers to eat at school?  They take a very, very long time to eat and they do not have time to eat anything else.  I worry about them having a sucker stick in their mouth at recess time too.  Maybe they could save their suckers for home, please?
Thanks for your help.

                   - Scholastic Book orders due by Friday, October 18
                   - No School - Friday, October 25
                   - Terry Fox Walk - Tuesday, October 29 after lunch

Hope all of you had a warm, wonderful (and extra long) Thanksgiving Weekend!

THANKSGIVING PRAYERS
We wrote our own Thanksgiving prayers last week.  I was hoping that the children could share them with their families during Thanksgiving dinner but the weather had other ideas.  I've sent home the originals (decorated with crayon leaf rubbings around the sides) and posted a copy on our hallway bulletin board.

BOXTOWN
Thank you all for sending in your recyclable stuff to use in building Boxtown.  The building of Boxtown was very exciting.  We had an arena, a candy store, 2 Safeways, a school with a pool, a vet's office, a zoo and many other interesting buildings.  We also used LOTS of masking tape!
Our social studies unit about "I Belong" and communities is finished and we will be starting our new science unit about the "Senses" this week.
