REPORT CARDS
Your child should have brought home their report cards last Friday.  Please keep the actual report card, then sign and return the empty envelope to school.  We will re-use them next term and save a few trees!  Your child will be sharing some of their work from this first term with you during the conference.  We are encouraging the students to take more ownership of their own leaning and giving them a chance to share and tell you what we have been working on in class.  They are very excited to show you their portfolios.  If, after the conferences, you still wanted to speak to me privately, we can certainly set up another day and time to meet and talk.  Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

SENSES
We have finished up our science unit about the senses and are starting our next unit which is all about the SEASONS.  We had a young lady from the University of Manitoba's WISE program come out last week to give us a presentation about the senses and do some fun activities with us.  WISE is "Women in Science and Engineering".  They are working to encourage kids (especially girls) to get interested in science and engineering.

Learning's Fun ~ In Grade One! October 29, 2018

Reminders - Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 31
                   - NO SCHOOL - Friday, November 9
                   - Christmas Supper and Auction - Saturday, November 17 at the Caboto Centre

ARTIST IN THE SCHOOL
Last week we had so much fun with Mr. Stan Lesk as part of the "Artist in the School" program.  Mr. Stan is a well known Winnipeg actor who came out to share his skills, talents and love of acting with the students using games and improv activities.  We had a wind-up "show" on Friday where each class shared some of the games they had enjoyed during the week, with the whole school (and a few guests).  Thanks Mr. Stan.

HALLOWEEN PARTY
We are having our Halloween Party this Wednesday, October 31 in the afternoon.
I have divided up the parent list into small groups and signed them up to bring treats for one of the class parties.  That way, each family only has to bring treats for one party during the school year.
SNACK PARENTS -
For Halloween - Ben, Daniella, Desayo, and James
Christmas - Judah, Lachlan, Madeline, Mahfuz
Valentine's Day - Max, Nate, Platon, Salem
Easter - Shae, Zac, Mrs. Petkau, Mrs. Bennett

If this party snack day does not work for you, maybe you can switch with another family or please let me know and I will re-arrange party days.  Don't forget that this is a nut-free school.  Thanks.

COSTUMES
The children may dress up for our Halloween party (if they wish).  Please send their costumes to school in a plastic bag and they will get changed after lunch recess.  PLEASE do not have them wear their costumes to school in the morning. (a half day is long enough!!!)
RULES FOR COSTUMES - please no weapons
                                               - no masks
                                               - no blood, guts, scary stuff (there are young children in the building)
                                               - the costumes should be appropriate for a Christian school
We will be having a costume parade, a sock hop in the gym and party treats in each classroom.
It should be FUN!

WE SCARE HUNGER
The We Care Club has provided each class with a "We Scare Hunger" bag.  Each class is challenged to bring in non-perishable food items to fill their bag.  Please send these food items by November 1st.
