What's New in One and Two? April 11- 15, 2016

REMINDERS - Monday is the last day to bring in the Spring Break Easter Egg Reading Sheet

DESIGN PROCESS
We have been working on the design process for science lately.  The students have a Fairy Tale problems to solve.  Last week they needed to design and make a new basket for Little Red Riding-Hood.  They could only use paper and masking tape.  We had certain criteria that they needed to meet - it needed a handle, it needed to be big enough to hold her lunch (juice box, hamburger, orange), and it needed to be strong enough and hold together while it was being carried across the chapel area and back.
Our second project was to design and make a chair for Humpty Dumpty (he was tired of sitting on walls and falling off of them).  This week we will be making a new bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to walk across using only white glue and spaghetti.
Here are some photos of the work in progress and some completed designs from last week -

MATH
The grade ones have been working on measurement in math this week.  We used paper squares to measure and compare the area of our desks and our chairs.
